In 2012 Autens was approached by Bedford Borough Council, England, to initiate and support a rolling programme of facilitated study visits involving reciprocal visit form schools in Bedford and Copenhagen. Several strong partnerships of schools have developed from this Comenius supported programme which will extend to 2016, involving more than 30 schools across the two countries.
The programme allows teachers to reflect on and view their own teaching practice through the eyes of visiting teachers from another country. It generates powerful reflection particularly around pedagogy, learning, organisation of learning and school ethos that has impact on every school involved. Also it sheds a strengthening light on admirable, courageous and innovative practice with the learner at heart within each school, something that may easily be forgotten in the everyday focus on improvement and achievement.
